The Honolulu Zoo Society is seeking enthusiastic speakers with bilingual skills to help us lead our Twilight Tours on Saturday evenings. Applicants should be fluent in both Japanese & English and have a love of animals. New hires will begin at $14 as a trainee assisting and translating for our more seasoned guides. Once they have developed sufficient familiarity with the zoo’s animals and procedures, they will be promoted to a full guide rate of $15-$16 and be entrusted with leading their own tours.

Guides are tasked with managing groups of up to 15 visitors while leading them on a set route through the Honolulu Zoo. Along the route, it is the Guide’s duty to introduce visitors to the zoo’s unique animal residents, regaling them with personal stories and unique trivia about the species. These encounters are completed by empowering visitors with knowledge of threats to these species in the wild, but also steps that anyone can take in order to conserve and protect them.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong public speaker
• Reliable and on-time
• Able to work evenings on weekends
• Comfortable working a variety of weather conditions and be able to spend roughly two hours walking through the zoo.
• Able to maintain a cool head and follow safety procedures in the event of an emergency

Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $14.00 – $16.00 per hour
Schedule: Weekends as needed
