Amateur Photography contest 2013

This Photography Contest is sponsored by the Honolulu Zoo Society. Our mission is to foster an appreciation of our living world by supporting and advocating environmental education, recreation, and biological study and conservation activities at the Honolulu Zoo. Any and all proceeds from this contest go directly to support of our Mission.

Where to Enter

Entries will be accepted at the Honolulu Zoo on the following two days only:

Friday May 24, and Saturday May 25, from 10 A.M.-3:30 P.M. No entries will be accepted at any other time.

How to enter

Entries will be received on a first come, first served basis; no more than 150 photo entries per category will be accepted. Only one entry per category, per person will be accepted. To ensure participation in the contest, please email photocontest@honzoosoc.org to be placed on the participation list. The $7.00 entry fee for adults, $5.00 for Teenagers (age 12-17) and no entry fee for Keiki (age 4-11) will only be accepted with submission of prints during the designated time frame. Please make checks out to the "Honolulu Zoo Society." All proceeds will be donated to the Zoo's Animal Conservation Fund.

Exhibit

All winning entries will be physically displayed at the Honolulu Zoo and posted on the Zoo's website. Best in Show will be the Fall Zooview cover.

Note: All entries must be Honolulu Zoo Animals. Only unaltered prints with the truth of the photo statement maintained will be accepted for Mammals, Birds, and Reptiles in color. The Creative Category allows any alteration of normal photograph procedures.

Return of photos

The winners will be notified by phone or by e-mail no later than the middle of June. The winning photos will be displayed at the Zoo July thru August. All other photo entries can be picked up at the Zoo from 10 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on June 28 and June 29. If photos are not picked up by two weeks after this deadline, they will become the property of the Honolulu Zoo and Zoo Society.

Judging

Prints will be judged on interest, composition and technical quality by representatives of the Honolulu Zoo and the Honolulu Zoo Society. All decisions are final.

Requirements

1.    All prints entered must be approximately 8" x 12" with a mat and frame size of 11" x 14" (color of mat is optional). No loose prints will be accepted. Prints not in accordance with the above will be disqualified.

2.    All photographic prints must be framed in plain glass with the frame of your choice. Please attach secure wiriing aligned properly to the back of photo for hanging purposes. One entry per category.

3.    This amateur contest is a community event intended to raise awareness and promote the conservation and environmental education efforts of the Honolulu Zoo and Honolulu Zoo Society. No professional photographer entries will be accepted.

4.    Photos must be original and taken at the Honolulu Zoo from public walkways or viewing areas by the entrant between January 2013 and May 2013. No names are allowed on the front of the photo prints.

5.    The Honolulu Zoo Society and Honolulu Zoo are not responsible for lost or damaged photo entries.

6.    All entrants agree to allow their photographs to be displayed and or published by the Honolulu Zoo and Honolulu Zoo Society without a fee.

7.    The Children's category is for ages 4-11, Teenage category is for ages 12-17, and the Adult category 18 and older.

8.    No mail-in entries will be accepted
       a.    Photo entry titles will not be a factor in judging.

9.    Prints not in accordance with the above specifications will be disqualified.
