Holiday Enrichment 2003

Most of the animals
have handmade Christmas ornaments on
the doors to their night quarters. The ornaments were made
by a dedicated keeper.

A volunteer
gave apples rolled in sweet oats to Kruger. |
|

Christmas trees and
presents were placed in the chimp exhibit.

Most
of the chimps' packages were quite large. |

attracted a crowd of on-lookers. |
 |
|

Pandji spent most of
the time at a log scented with Obsession perfume. |
 |
|

Staff filled
Rusti, the orangutan's exhibit, with presents and treats. |

Crowds watched as
Rusti opened his presents. |

Vaigai gently picks through her treats. |

Mari prefers to knock the tree down and
crush the melons. |
Frequent
enrichment for all captive birds and animals, whether they be in a zoo, a
research facility or in your home as pets,
is very important for their physical
and mental well-being.
The
Honolulu Zoo has regularly scheduled year-round enrichment activities
for all of its residents.
